Our Mission:
Krewe du Lac was formed in 2000 to raise funds for The
Seabrook Music Festival CCISD Art Scholarship. In 2002 The Krewe honored as the official Krewe of
Kemah.
For many years this
group of merrymakers had individually made the pilgrimage to Galveston. Now they travel together by motor coach, private cars and
vans to the island. It is not unheard of for a delegation to make the trip to New Orleans as well.
Although the Krewe
is primarily based in Kemah, members hail from all parts of Clear Lake and Greater Galveston Bay. The first weekend of Mardi
Gras! Galveston, Krewe du Lac participates in the Krewe of Aquarius Seawall and enjoys a parade viewing party during the Gambrinus parade.
The Krewe reagally participates in Aquarius' Fat Tuesday parade.
On the second weekend "Krewes Into Kemah" kicks into overdrive. The festivities include
The King's Party, The Galloway School's annual fun run, The Royal Ball on The Star Gazer in the Yachty Gras Parade,
The Kemah Truck Parade and the post parade Mardi Pardi. Whew!
Krewe du Lac is registered with the state of Texas as a nonprofit
corporation whose purpose is to promote the cultural, educational and traditional customs of Mardi Gras. Krewe participants
are dedicated to creating a "hometown" Mardi Gras clebration in Kemah which is appealing to families. The Krewe works through out the year assisting non-profit groups with their fund raising projects.
With
Krewe du Lac, there are no strangers...only friends we have yet to meet.
Our Royalty:
Every year the King is recognized for his contributions to Krewe du Lac and the community in
general. The Queen is chosen by the tradition of finding the baby in the King's Cake.
